The North American currency union is a hypothetical situation in which the major countries of North America – specifically Canada and the United States, possibly Mexico – would share a common currency. This idea is based on the common European Union currency, the euro. There are also related proposals for a single currency for all of the Americas. The hypothetical currency for both of these ideas is sometimes referred to as the amero.

In August 2007, rumors and conspiracy theories began circulating across the Internet regarding alleged United States Treasury issued "amero" coins. These are, however, fantasy coins or medallions manufactured by a company called DC (Designs Computed) coins, Denver, Colorado. The designer, Daniel Carr, in fact, also crafted the New York and Rhode Island state quarters issued by the United States Mint, circulated in 2001. Carr described the amero coins as "prototypes".

Amero - die neue nordamerikanische Währung

Nach dem Willen der Grossbanken und als Vorstufe auf eine einheitliche Weltwährung (Globo?), soll es demnächst eine einheitliche Währung für Nordamerika geben, d.h. USA, Kanada und Mexiko. Es soll eine Struktur ähnlich wie die EU (d.h. "North American Union") aufgebaut werden, eine supranationale Organisation ohne demokratische Legitimation, welche von Technokraten geleitet wird. Somit wird die demokratische Mitbestimmung des Volkes und Souveränität der Länder ausgehebelt. So ähnlich ist es bereits heute in der EU, wo ein Grossteil der Gesetze aufgrund von Vorgaben von der EU gemacht werden müssen.
